Last week, in the middle of the first period of the Tampa Bay Lightning versus the Dallas Stars home game, a man was honored as a Community Hero.

That man is Bob Buesing.

Bob has spent decades advocating for the youngest members of our society to have strong services, support, and education that gives them access to a brighter future. Because he is passionate believer in the long-term value of early childhood education and positive experiences, Bob has elevated the discussion of how Tampa Bay can best address this critical and time-sensitive issue.

Four years ago, Bob brought the idea of TALK READ SING to us at Champions for Children as an opportunity to deliver the simple but powerful message that “babies begin learning at birth” to Tampa’s parents, caregivers, educators, and the community at large. He saw how TALK READ SING Tampa Bay has the potential to increase the number of children entering school ready-to-learn, and the lifelong impacts that can have on a child’s life. This year, Bob served as our first TRSTB Ambassador sharing the initiative’s message with businesses, community groups, and individuals.

We are so grateful that Bob has designated the generous funds he was awarded to TALK READ SING Tampa Bay and Champions for Children. This will enable us to spread this simple, yet powerful message to all corners of Hillsborough County so that this message can permeate our society as a whole. It will enable parents and caregivers to be more engaged with their children and better support the first three years of a child’s life and allow them to thrive!
